Left Hip

Jen’s hip surgery started late, but was worth the wait.

Her arthroplasty was scheduled to start at 10:45 am. Dr. Wodajo was in the OR finishing up another surgery well past noon, delaying Jen’s until 3:00 pm.

When he began, he found the cancer had further compromised her left hip. “This was the worse side. There was more bone involvement and damage.”

Despite the damage, Dr. Wodajo said Jen’s second hip surgery was much less complicated than the first, “The embolization definitely helped. There was much less bleeding, making the surgery considerably easier.”

The surgery was ultimately successful. Dr. Wodajo was able to anchor the implant solidly to healthy bone. He has high expectations for Jen’s new hips, “There’s no reason she shouldn’t get full use back.”

Dr. Wodajo expects similar pain relief in her left hip as Jen felt with her right one. She has a lot on her plate, “this is one less thing for her to worry about.”

Before Jen’s surgery, Dr. Wodajo asked if I had any questions. I said yes, when will she be able to dance again? After the procedure he said, “My work is done for now. As far as the dancing, I’ll leave that up to you.”

  • Dr. Wodajo seems like a miracle worker. And he appears to have a swell bedside manner, too. If I ever need a new hip, he’ll be No. 1 on my list.
