Jen had a relatively quiet pain day, a lively family visit and a few surprise treats yesterday.

It was a good morning. We talked, reminisced and began reading Tina Fey’s “Bossypants.”

By request, my sister, brother and niece came bearing a slice of one of Jen’s favorite desserts. Hollie, Scot, and Emily brought chocolate, chocolate mousse cheesecake from Junior’s, one of our top of the list places to eat in Brooklyn.

Jen lit up when she saw our family, especially her favorite brother-in-law.

Jen’s been “joking” about getting a glass of Pinot Noir (her favorite wine), to replace the many pills she takes. Everyone laughed it off, until yesterday.

Jen was very pleasantly surprised when one of her comfort caregivers walked in, flashing a furtive smile and revealed a bottle of Pinot.

We drank the wine out of paper cups with burgers and fries Hollie picked up from Melt, our favorite burger place in town.

Jen rested fairly comfortably for much of the afternoon, and spent the remainder of a quiet evening with her mom, dad and sister.

  • Little things have great importance to us as humans.

Your family and her family just being there with you must ease the heaviness of the burdens you both are carrying.

Bask in the love. Love is all that matters.
