Interventive

Yesterday’s transfer from Inova Loudoun to the Fairfax campus went well. Jen’s new nurses and doctors are taking good care of her.

Jen is having a pre-operative embolization, an interventional cardiovascular procedure to minimize blood loss during her hip surgery.

The O.R. is booked for two hours. The procedure is expected to last less than an hour. Waking from anesthesia will take anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours.

Jen should be on her way back to her room around 1:00 or 2:00 this afternoon. We’ll have a light meal together and rest up for tomorrow’s surgery.

We didn’t come to the decision to pursue this accelerated surgical timetable lightly. The high doses and increasing potency of the drugs we’re giving Jen are taking a toll on her mind and body, with diminishing effect on her pain. The disease is working fast, outpacing our interventive efforts so far.

Right now hip replacement is our best option. The toll and risks are high, but the alternative is to let this disease take away Jen’s ability to fight back.

Dr. Wodajo will start Jen’s first hip surgery tomorrow around 2:00 pm. If all goes well, Jen will have a new left hip tomorrow evening.

  • Our hearts and prayers are with you all – Jen, Stephen, the team of doctors and health assistants, family and friends. With warm love and hugs

  • Tons of prayers coming your way for both of you. Jen, you need to do everything you can to fight this beast and fight it as pain free as you can. Stephen, I know you are her rock and are doing everything in your power to help her and research all the things being endlessly thrown at you. I hope all the prayers, love and well wishes that are being sent your way are getting through and invigorating you both. You are not alone. ❤️ May these procedures be smooth sailing and successful.

    • By this time, ebolization should be over. Hope all went well and you get to have a nice relaxing dinner just the two of you. All good vibes out to the two of you for tomorrow’s surgery, strength for recovery and fortitude to meet your goals.
      Continue to look forward.
      ❤️

  • Hoping for a successful surgery and a new bionic hip! Yahooooo! Sending hugs and love. Keep up the fight, Jennifer! ❤️

  • I pray that the hip surgery goes well today (the 4th) and puts you on the path to total pain relief. I can only imagine what you’re going through, but I hope all the prayers, love, and comforting words give you even more strength and resolve–which you already seem to have in spades.

Stephen, I’m only a few minutes from Inova Fairfax (I live very close by in Falls Church), so please let me know if there’s anything I can ever do to help . . . contact-free delivery of meals or reading materials, for instance. 🙂

You both are in my thoughts many, many times every day.

  • Thinking and praying for you everyday!! The surgery sounds like a good plan. Wishing tons of strength 🤗🤗
