Our day begins when the first alarm goes off at 3:00 am. Time for Jen’s first round of meds. We set twelve alarms, one for each round. We get a good four hours of sleep before the second alarm, Jen propped up in her recliner and me on the couch, a few feet away.
We have breakfast together around 7:00. Jen gets her first of two injections of Lovenox at 9:00.
Our morning calls include a few to and from family. Jen shares a bit about our calendar, “A nurse is coming Monday. What Anab put on the paperwork was two to three times a week, for four to six weeks.”
Jen talks about getting sleep at home, “It’s nice to be able to just put my head down and take a nap and no one is going to bother me. I am sleeping better, when I don’t over do it. Today is shower day, I’m so excited!”
She talks about walking with her post surgery back brace, “It actually doesn’t really feel any different to me if I’m wearing the brace or not. It doesn’t bother me. I’ve gotten kind of used to it. My legs are just still heavy. Even with the walker its hard for me to pick my feet up.”
Jen’s sense of humor has carried her through all of this. Our family and friends know that. After seeing pictures of her back, one of them said, “When that all heals up, you’ve got to get a really badass tattoo. Like a zipper, or something.”
The zipper tattoo sounds cool. Mine would be a lot shorter, but I don’t know if I’m brave enough. Each day as you heal you’ll see a little bit more strength and mobility. With everyone’s love and prayers I know you’ll get better in no time. Love. Sharon and Allen
Shower day! Shower day! Shower day!💧💧💧💧💧
Love a routine, especially when you have control over it! It adds a sense of normalcy and increases agency. Enjoy the shower!
You go girl! I’m glad every day you get better and better! 🙏🏽
All the cool kids wear back braces, didn’t you know? And hey, I’ll give you my work schedule so if you want to talk to someone at 3am we can chat on my drive home – hahaha.
GLAD TO SEE THAT YOU ARE UP AND ABOUT!! TAKE YOUR TIME AND BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVER DO IT.
