Just off the phone with Jen. She’s rested. We joked. She laughed. She’s hungry. She’s stronger than she knows. They will be taking her down to surgery any minute. For her, this will be done in a flash. For us it will seem like forever. I sent her off with images of me making silly faces and a live feed of Mia being a puppy. We’re ready for this. At least as ready as we can be.

Today’s operation will be to remove the tumor and attach a titanium cage in place of the damaged vertebrae, adding strength to the front of her spine. Jen’s surgery will start around noon and take about two hours.
