Healing

The weather has been beautiful the past three days — blue skies, white puffy clouds, gentle breezes. Making use of Jen’s wheelchair, we (Jen, her mom and I) have been able to enjoy being outdoors together. We have lunch on our deck (usually leftovers from amazing dinners delivered by a good friend the night before), a welcome break from the sterile rooms, bland food, doctors, medications and other interruptions of our hospital stays.

We continue to be blown away by the kindness of our family, friends and neighbors. We came home a week ago and found our lawn, shrubs and bushes perfectly manicured, and laundry cleaned and folded. We have replaced Jen’s temporary wheelchair ramp with a solid, sturdy, wider, hand-built one. We’ve had groceries delivered, amazing meals prepared, and are braced in so many other ways by the incredible support of friends, family and neighbors.

Our brief stay at home has been brightened by their thoughtfulness, helping hands, moving words of comfort and encouragement, well wishes, and healing gifts. A special thanks to my sisters, my best friend, to friends right next door, and ones oceans away.

Jen’s hip surgery is on for Thursday at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Pre-op begins at 8:45 am and the surgery is scheduled to start around 10:45 am.

  • Jennifer, so glad to hear you have felt the sun on your face! Did you see any interesting “images” in those clouds?

  • Jen, you really are amazing . . . hope the second round of surgery this week goes smoothly and that you get completely free of the pain you’ve been having. What a blessing that would be!

And I’m happy to bring non-hospital food to Inova Fairfax during your recovery/rehab, as I live just a few minutes away and know all the restaurants around these parts. I can even make a contact-free delivery in the parking lot. If you prefer something homemade, I can do that, too.

You both are inspirations to us all.

  • Thinking of you, Jen. So glad you have been able to enjoy some healing time at home, and that you are being loved on in so many ways. Lifting you up in my heart and prayers!

  • SO GLAD YOU HAD SOME TIME WITH YOUR MOM! I’M SURE SHE WAS GLAD TO SEE YOU
BOTH TOO! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND ENJOY THE SUNSHINE AND LOVELY WEATHER.
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR NEXT SURGERY AND GOD BLESS! LOVE YOU GUYS.
    AUNT JOANNE AND UNCLE DENNY
