Gains

Dr. Wodajo stopped by to say hello yesterday. He put Jen’s new hip through a few rotational, flexing and strength manipulations. He was happy with everything he saw, and followed up again earlier today.

The pain in Jen’s hips has quieted down considerably. Partly because of the surgery, also because she has two catheters pumping local anesthetic to her new hip.

PT and OT worked with Jen twice yesterday. Jen is making really good progress. She did several “stand and pivot” exercises, getting a little better each time. Afterwards, Jen asked her physical therapist about taking her first steps. Maggie said if Jen feels up to it, she would include walking in today’s sessions.

The physical activity and usual traffic of doctors, nurses, and techs took a bit of a toll yesterday. In between therapy, examinations, procedures, and dressing changes, Jen managed to get a few pockets of rest.

We had an early dinner together, and watched (the beginning of) Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

We are so excited about the possibilities Jen’s new hip (and the other in two weeks) will open up for us. They will have a huge impact on Jen’s pain management, her physical gains, home care, state of mind, and ability to get out, feel the sun and breathe a little fresh air.
