Recovery

Jen had a rough recovery from surgery, then made promising progress today.

Jen spent more than three hours in PACU, waking up from anesthesia, where her nurse worked at stabilizing and getting her pain under control. It was 2:00 am when Jen was finally settled and resting in her new room.

Dr. Wodajo ordered bed rest overnight, but wanted Jen bearing weight as tolerated this morning.

Physical and Occupational therapy came in to work with her after breakfast. Before her blood pressure dropped, and she cut the session short, Jen got up and out of bed on her own for the first time in weeks. With the use of a walker, she was able to support her weight with her new hip.

Life With Cancer’s Teassa Eddy talked to us about the programs, support and counseling available through the Schar Cancer Institute. She spent a good part of the early afternoon getting acquainted with our journey through the maze of diagnoses, specialists, medications, hospitals, procedures, and therapies.

Last Friday, Jen noticed swathes of hair coming free as she brushed. That continues today. Her strength and beauty are what I see. Jen rocks her new look as only she can.

  • You’ve got this Jen! 💪🏻 You will be cha-chasing in no time! ❤️ Much better than I can 😉 Mia sends kisses 🐶❤️

  • “promising progress” and “putting weight on her new hip” sounds great! Keep it going! Glad the Life with Cancer group is stepping up with resources and support.

  • It’s all a part of the journey. Hair is just hair. It will grow back, and it means nothing to anyone who knows and loves you. When you are beautiful inside and out, none of the battle wounds (aka “scars”) or how much hair you have mean a darn thing. And yay for standing on your own! That’s a great accomplishment and there will be more to come. You’re going to start taking your life back. I know it. Keep fighting my friend. ❤️

  • I bet you will rock your new look. I can imagine it’s hard to see losing your hair slowly. Troy shaved my moms head when it happened to her. I’m so glad you able to get out of bed for a little bit. One step at a time

  • Standing on your own with one new hip…just wait till you get another one in a couple weeks!!! Hoping the hip pain is gone there and only site pain from the surgery and that will go away!! Praying for a great 2 weeks now of resting and getting strong again. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!❤️🙏

  • Back on your feet under your own steam!!! You go girl! I bet you’re going to look as great as Demi Moore in GI Jane. I’m thrilled that the operation went well, I’m always thinking of you both and check constantly for updates. Stephan you are so right to point out beauty and strength, Jen has tons of both. 💐🙏🏻❤️

  • I’ve always wanted to see you with short hair. I think you will look like a movie star!! I love that you are moving around!! That’s great news.
    😘❤️

  • So excited that you were up and moving on your own. You are an inspiration to so many people. What beautiful person you are inside and out. And you have one amazing husband standing by your side through all of this. I will continue to lift you both up in my prayers 🙏🏻

  • Hey girl, I imagine that losing your hair is so tough. It’s a battle wound, one of many, but your standing today—you’ve got this! Stay strong at think about that wonderful picnic at The Meadows!😘🙏🏻
