Standing

Dr. Syed (did Jen’s ablation, cement procedure) asked about her hip replacement surgery. I said, “We love Jen’s new hip. Wish we had another :)”

Standing and walking are critical to solving (and preventing) the complications caused when she was unable to ambulate.

Jen is getting used to her new femoral head and acetabulum. The pain in her replaced hip is noticeably less. She’s gaining strength and moving better with each effort. Her muscle gains are slow and often frustrating for her, but they are real and she gets a little stronger every day.

Dr. Sarma (Jen’s oncologist) has given the green light for the timing of her second hip surgery. It’s a “go” to start in less than two weeks, “Let’s plan for the second surgery before any further chemotherapy.”

Jen’s treatment is challenging because this cancer (adrenocortical carcinoma) is aggressive, and there is not a whole lot known about it.

Dr. Sarma has been in touch with Dr. Jaydira Del Rivero at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda. “She is the (rare cancer) expert in the mid-Atlantic.”

Dr. Del Rivero is working on tumor immunology and the development of novel immunotherapy approaches … and targeted therapies for endocrine malignancies.

She is also involved with a clinical trial Jen may be a candidate for.
